SDG Music Foundation embarks on a new venture with Grammy Award-winner Fabio Luisi, currently Principal Conductor of the Metropolitan Opera. Preparing the score of his new St. Bonaventure Mass for the World Premiere in September is SDG's first project in the role of Publisher.

Luisi's new Mass commemorates the 800th anniversary of the birth of Saint Bonaventure of Bagnoregio, one of the most influential theologians of the Middle Ages.

Immediately following the World Premiere, the New York Premiere will be performed at The Cloisters of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on September 19, 2017. The Cloisters performance will be a truly special event, with the music of the Mass performed in the historic Fuentidueña Chapel. Musicians will include the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, soprano and bass-baritone soloists, an instrumental ensemble from the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and internationally renowned and Tony-nominated (“Show Boat”) Michel Bell as the Recitant.

The Fuentidueña Chapel at The Cloisters houses a twelfth-century Romanesque apse, originally part of the San Martín church at Fuentidueña in Segovia and re-created stone-by-stone in this historic chapel.

FABIO LUISI

In addition to conducting at the Met, Maestro Luisi is the General Director of the Zurich Opera and Zurich Philharmonia, the Music Director of the Royal Danish Orchestra, and Music Director Designate of Florence’s Opera di Firenze (2018). At the Met he has led productions ranging from Madama Butterfly, Aida, and Don Giovanni to Manon, Elektra, and Wozzeck. His extensive discography includes multiple symphonies and operas.
